The DIY Old School USB Cable Kit contains all the pieces you need to assemble your own old-school style USB cable. It’s a fun project that will save you money, a win-win!

All DIY Old School USB Cable Kits include:
- 26 AWG, four-core, foil-shielded "Old School" cable with a drain wire, cut to length.
- Two (2) USB connectors
- Heatshrink
- Add-on options include: detachable connector or solder (additional costs apply)
Please note: These kits come unassembled and you’ll need your own tools to complete the cable. If you didn’t add solder to your DIY Kit order, you’ll need to supply your own solder. These are not “No Solder” kits. They are “Solder” kits. You will need solder. And if you burn yourself, that’s on you.
There are no refunds available for DIY Kits.
Additionally, in the event that the mis-assembly of a DIY cable causes damage to any device or PC it is plugged into, Zap will not be held responsible. If you are unclear about assembly or have any questions about the DIY Kit, feel free to shoot us an email first or ask around in our Discord.
Making Coils?
If you are making coils, remember that you will need extra cable. Here's what you'll need for some typical coil lengths (assuming you are using a 3/8" rod to coil your cable around):
- For 6" coils, add 4 feet
- For 9" coils, add 6 feet
- For 12" coils, add 8 feet
